Grilled Portobello Mushrooms

Serve these giants on rolls with burger accompaniments or as a side dish for grilled steak.

6 large portobello mushrooms

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground black pepper

1 Preheat a gas or charcoal grill to medium-high heat. Dip a clean tea towel in vegetable oil and wipe the grill surface with oil.

2 Clean off the mushrooms with damp paper towels or a mushroom brush. Scrape out the black membrane on the underside of the cap.

3 Mix oil and garlic together in a shallow dish. Dip mushrooms in oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill 5 minutes per side until fork tender. Serve whole or sliced.
